Henry G. Jones of Iowa

Henry G Jones of Iowa was born in Rensselaer Co. New York, Petersburg area, Jones Hollow Jones Rd. exposure.


Henry was the first living born child of Noyes Jones and Susan Madison Jones.

3 Sept 1834 Petersburg area as best learned so far.

His family moved to Nunda, Illinois after  1855.  Some of his siblings joined the CW from this area. Not found if he has yet.

Noel Jones his next born brother did not come west. Story says he died in the east and I am still looking for confirming information on the story.

William Harrison, went by Harrison, joined the CW with his next brother Calvin Fay serving the same unit.  Harrison was lost at Stone River Battle, Tenn and  Calvin was nursed back to health and walked back to ILL. We have picture of his tombstone thanks to another cousin.

He married Kathryn Kerns.  They had children, She died 1890 and later he married.

His new wife’s name was Maude Mae Stephens,  in Iowa marriage records she is called Mac J Stephens.  Dad said she was Maude Mae others said Mary Jane Stephens?. She lived in Dyersville, Iowa. She married Henry Jones on 12-25-1891 at Manchester, IOWA.  Her first marriage  his second. Her family from England according to her great Grandaughter Carolin. *she has more records on her GGrandmother’s family.

She lived with Jessie after Henry’s death according to the 1925 Iowa State Census. She was a widow at age 66 and Jessie was 30.   Susan Madison is also listed as Henry’s mother on the Iowa Marriage Record,  Nois, (Norris? looks like) NOYES is listed as the father of Henry Jones.

The children were: Elsie (Donalson) m John Miller; Hubert Jones, &  Jesse Marion Jones  b Nashua IA,  died Nashua IA m Bernice Ruth Plants   She was born 21 July 1901Beaver, IA and died 7 April 1984 Nashua IA.

Jesse Marion and Bernice Ruth Plants Jones  had Charles Edward and Alice Mae.
